www.womengolf.org
debuted in 1995 to provide a centralized source of information about
the activities of California’s seven women’s golf associations. The original site featured
tournament information and also became an online resource for securing individual
handicap indices.
From 1995 on the worldwide web grew significantly in breadth. More
and more homes were online, and individuals logged on to conduct research and gather
information rather than go to the library or walk through the yellow pages.
Magazines, although routinely delivered to individual homes, became accessible
on the web and featured links to related products, groups and events. Consequently,
in 1998, www.womensgolf.org reinvented itself
as Women’s Online Golf.
The site continues to feature news and information from the women’s golf associations
in California, as well as from other states and golf-related organizations. It links to other websites
featuring golf courses, tournaments and events of interest to women as well as
books and products related to golf. The magazine features articles, photographs
and reports concerning women’s tournaments, association activities and related items
of interest, such as Rules and handicap; new women-friendly golf courses; and articles on health and
nutrition. Interested clubs and golf courses can register for individual Club Websites
featuring information relative to their club membership and course, along with activities
and other amenities of interest to women. This is a web-based magazine for and about women and golf.
